My old Compaq’s screen’s littered with these colored lines (of Gennari @_@), and while potentially salveagable, I think it would be more cost-effective to get a new replacement laptop (I was thinking then in terms of the trendy mini-notebooks, i.e. Asus EEE PC and HP Mini-Note PC.) than to have the screen changed. So I’ve been saving for a new laptop which I intended to buy come December. But my parents decided to get me one as an early birthday present. Thanks Mom and Dad! 
I have yet to install Office and Photoshop, and most of my files are still in the old Compaq. I’m sorting through them right now and deciding which ones to send to the Recycle Bin, and which files to transfer to my new Vaio.
